The philosophical house is a small house for single living built in a modern way
On the occasion of the next “Art Basel” – an art show that has been held annually since 1980 in the cities of Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida, USA and Hong Kong, China, on the Vitra Campus between the Vitra Haus and the Kupola architectural ensemble, there is a small house for single living in the bosom of nature by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.
The company “Vitra Campus” constantly collaborates with the most prominent architects in the world and a unique ensemble of architectural works of such masters as Tadao Ando, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Richard Buckminster Fuller, SANAA, Nicholas Grimshaw, Herzog & de Meuron and many others has already been assembled on a huge territory others. All objects can be viewed, checked and ordered directly on site in the Vitra Haus specialized store.
About ten years ago, Renzo Piano began designing various minimalist houses, where living space is limited to a minimum area of four square meters (2×2). This room holds a bed, a small desk and a chair – a dream for architecture students. Various prototype houses were developed in Genoa, Italy – from plywood, concrete and wood. The final version of the most acceptable mini-house called “Diogene” was presented in 2009 in the Italian magazine “Abitare”.
“Diogene” in translation from Italian – Diogenes, the famous Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope is a rather mysterious figure of Ancient Greece, all kinds of anecdotes and hard-hitting rumors still circulate about him. It is known for certain that Diogenes despised luxury, wore the clothes of a vagabond, and lived in a large earthen wine vessel, shaped like an egg, called “pithos”. In the name of this ancient Greek hermit, Renzo named his brainchild.
A wooden philosophical house with a gable roof, measuring 2.4 x 2.4 meters and a height of 2.3 meters, weighs 2.5 tons and can be installed almost anywhere that its inhabitant likes. It can be transported on any truck from three tons with a carrying capacity.
Regular readers of Forum-Grad will be interested to know that the Italian architect Renzo Piano was born in 1937 in Genoa, Italy. Its main building is the Pompidou Center in Paris, France (1971-1977). For many years, he collaborated with engineer Peter Rice and developed large-scale projects for the reconstruction of industrial zones in cities such as Paris, France; Turin and Milan, Italy. It was he who designed the Jean-Marie Tjibau Cultural Center in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Renzo Piano led the design of the Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan and the Music Park in Rome, the Italian capital, and in 1997 built a building for the NEMO Museum in Amsterdam. In 1995 he won the Imperial Prize, and in 2000 the Pritzker Prize.
His unique home “Diogene” is not intended for emergency housing, it is just a cozy nest for voluntary seclusion and is intended for creative people. This building is not afraid of any climatic conditions, it has everything you need for life, there is a system for collecting and purifying water and reusing it. A mini-house can be used as a country philosophical house for rest, or you can make a whole “settlement” of such houses on the seashore or a large lake and make a small hotel.
The main quality of the philosophical house “Diogenes” is absolute privacy, the walls do not allow extraneous sounds, which means that nothing can distract you from productive creativity or just a comfortable rest alone with nature.
