Just an old house in the center of a beautiful city
If you live in an old house in the center of a beautiful city, then every square meter is valuable. So what good is it to waste? Even from a 30-meter attic, you can “squeeze” a lot.
To be honest, this attic had enough drawbacks: an area of only 30 sq. meters, and even those are strongly “clipped” by the slopes of the roof, there are many windows, but they mainly look at the roof of the neighboring house. From this not the most tempting place, the owners of the house decided to make a Maff apartment for renting out to tourists. And to make the tourists want to go there. Specialists from Queeste Architecten were invited to fit everything necessary for a comfortable stay in The Hague into a very small and difficult volume.
A minimum of color, no sharp corners and all the furniture is built-in, the architects decided. And indeed the entire attic was decorated in white, with the exception of the subfloor. A classic and trouble-free technique that saves the interior of a small apartment – the more the floor is visible, the more spacious the room seems. The only bright flash is the orange sofa . But the color is so juicy that it is enough to energize the entire attic. Moving away from sharp corners in favor of soft lines made the small space more friendly and cozy.
All furniture is built-in and precisely adjusted to the difficult volume of the room. As a result, everything from a wide double bed to a comfortable kitchen and downright spacious shower with a bathroom fits into the interior of a small apartment.
Roof slopes “eat up” a lot of space.
Each cubic centimeter is actively used: a shower and a bathroom are masterfully inscribed under the roof slopes, which turned out to be even large by the general standards of the attic.
The apartments are divided into two logical parts – on the one hand, a spacious shower room, toilet and sink, on the other, a living room-bedroom. The kitchen is exactly in the middle.
The Maff apartment is located on the third floor of an old house from the 1890s, the one on the right with a red roof. Upstairs, a tiny dormer window looks out onto the square.
The apartment has its own staircase that leads directly to the third floor.
On the left is the toilet, on the right is the shower, and the sink is located under the window overlooking the courtyard – this is more fun to brush your teeth.
The window above the sink is small, but due to the reflectivity of the white color, the light from it is enough for the entire bathroom.
The shower is located directly under the roof slope.
One of the few advantages of an attic is the many large windows. Due to their size, the entire scale of the room seems to be larger than it actually is.
Quite spacious kitchen and orange sofa. According to the architects, this color was chosen because it echoes the color of the tiled roofs.
The cutest invention of the architects is a sofa from the dining room that flows smoothly into the sleeping place. The bed is located under a single window from which a picturesque view opens up.
