22 tons of exceptional craftsmanship
Our attention was drawn to the interior design of a panel house, designed and built by the Danish company VIPP, whose specialists began to create original steel structures back in 1939. Among their first works was a recycle bin, which later became an iconic design piece. Today it is an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art.
Oscar Wilde in his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” wrote:
“Nowadays people know the price of everything, but they don’t know how to value anything”
This phrase involuntarily comes to mind every time you hear the endless complaints of others about the high cost of everything: things, food, housing… It is surprising that the very tiny houses that are about to become an architectural trend are by no means cheap, contrary to the expectations of many.
Most often we are talking about non-serial design projects that involve the use of high-quality environmentally friendly materials, and this is what explains their high cost. However, the house that we intend to tell you about is capable of hitting anyone.
It is a minimalist construction of glass and steel, 22 tons of exceptional craftsmanship and great design, 55 m² of comfortable living space. The house embodies a new interpretation of the “turnkey” concept, no individual settings and options.
All included from bed linen to toilet brush
The house is delivered fully equipped. As they say, everything is included: from bed linen to toilet brush. This is an example of luxury design, which in this case means a functional kitchen from VIPP, heated floor with 25 cm insulation and many other amenities.
A fly in the ointment in the seemingly impeccable characterization of this building was added by the developer himself, designer Morten Bo Jensen. He said:
“There is a huge difference between our project and many similar proposals on the tiny home market today. It is due to the fact that I am not an architect.
This hideout is conceived as an independent product, but not an architectural object that must interact with the context. When creating it, we did not take into account the peculiarities of any site. We have designed the dwelling, thought out to the last detail, allowing the buyer to choose only its location “
Does such a project have a future? Is it possible to build a house with a glazed wall and claim that it will be suitable for life both in an impenetrable forest and in a hot desert?
Under certain conditions, a loft bedroom can become a stove, even with only one skylight. And the steep staircase, which must be climbed to get to the mezzanine level, can confuse many.
Now let’s return to the aspect that we barely touched upon at the very beginning of the article – to the price. Get ready to be surprised to numb: the house is worth 585 thousand dollars! And this fabulous sum must be paid, as you remember, for 55 m2 of living space, albeit very well equipped and superbly decorated.
Do not forget to add to it the costs of buying or renting land, delivery, manipulator services and connection to communications.
In general, we have reason to believe that the developers are disingenuous by promoting their project under the slogan “Plug and Play!” It is unlikely that the buyer of this by no means cheap house will somehow be comforted by the presence of a designer toilet brush if he has to invest his own funds in installing a septic sewage system.
However, we are convinced that the minimalist beauty of VIPP’s compact hideaway will be an advantage for someone that will outweigh everything. We wish the Danish studio that this product becomes as iconic as their famous waste basket and sells just as well.
