In 2014, one of the popular Belgian architecture firms, Aeon Architecten, completed an exclusive renovation project for an abandoned textile factory located in Deinze, converting it into several comfortable two-room apartments. The project manager was Kevin Nechelput, who, together with the property owners, was able to discern the unique possibilities of this project and the interesting architectural elements of the building.
Preserve old factory while implementing loft apartment design
The main task of the specialists and the wishes of the owners was to preserve the original brickwork and the main decor, reminiscent of the history of the plant. Therefore, it was decided to leave at least one preserved surface in each room in its original form, supplementing it with new black and white wall, floor and ceiling panels. In the dining room it is a wall made of bricks painted in different colors, in the kitchen there are gray window covers and window sills.
It was equally important in the end to get a single interior space filled with plenty of natural light, so the rooms in the apartments are separated by exclusively transparent glass partitions, and the small patio with a neat lawn was left without a roof at all.
All cabinet furniture, made in the same style with simple light or dark facades, also creates the effect of a smooth transition from one living area to another. The only bright accents can be considered a sky blue blanket in the bedroom, a couple of red chairs in the dining room and a coffee table made of natural wood in the form of industrial pallets.
Another unique detail is the staircase leading to the flat roof, where a recreation area was equipped at the request of the owners of the house. It is skillfully hidden in the closet, so that its appearance does not violate the unity of the interior.
As a result, thanks to the efforts of the designers, the old industrial building has turned into a cozy residential apartment that can satisfy the most capricious client.
