DIY simple outdoor sofa couch
Many of you have a summer cottage or a personal plot near the house, a necessary element of which is a bench or a bench.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “HomeMadeModern” will tell you how to make your own outdoor couch out of pine boards. If necessary, it can be moved to any place on the site, in contrast to benches with stationary dug-in racks.

This project is very easy to make, and even a novice carpenter can handle it. Materials. – Pine bar 100X200 and board 50X200 mm – Steel corners, galvanized self-tapping screws, anchor bolts for wood – Outdoor pillows – Sandpaper, paint.
The tools used by the author.
– Miter saw
– Hand circular saw
– Orbital sander
– Screwdriver , long wood drills with screw head
– Svenson square , tape measure, pencil, brush.
Manufacturing process.
Two pine beams 100X200 mm will go to the sides, while a board of 100X50 mm will be used for the seat and backrest.

First, the master cuts a 250-cm beam 100X200 mm into three parts, each of which is 82 cm. Given the thickness of the beams, it would be most convenient to do this on a miter saw.

But if your arsenal does not have one, you can perform this operation with a hand-held circular saw. In this case, the cut will have to be done in two approaches, turning the bar over. When cutting the material with a manual circular, it is imperative to carry out the marking (the author uses Svenson’s square ), or use a guide.

Further, boards of 100X50 mm are cut along the length. This length will be equal to the total width of the three cushions (about 1.5-1.8 m). Of course, when repeating this couch, the width of the seat can be chosen at your discretion.

All wooden surfaces are processed with an orbital sander, the edges are also rounded.

The next step is to connect the wooden blocks in pairs with each other. But this requires anchor bolts for wood of considerable length, and acquiring them can be problematic.
The craftsman gets out of the situation by drilling blind 20-mm holes in the wide side of the parts with a long drill in wood , while passing the material up to half.
The location of these holes should be slightly random, and four of them are sufficient.

Hex head anchor bolts are now screwed in through the resulting holes. Thus, by reducing the distance, the screws pierce the base of the first block and enter the array of the second beam located under it. To avoid wood cracking, pilot holes should be drilled.
According to this principle, the author “stitches” three elements into a single panel. You will need two such parts.

When both side pillars are ready, all that remains is to screw the steel corners to them, one for each of the seat boards.
In this case, the author places them in such a way that their lower wing is in line with the joining of the beams.

From above to the corners, the transverse boards of the seat are installed, fixed from below with galvanized wood screws, and the frame of the couch is ready!
Perhaps it would be easier to assemble the middle part of the sofa frame upside down. But the author wanted to immediately see what comes out of this design.
