Design and style of the summer guest house was made for families
A private house located in New South Wales, Australia, strikes the eye with its originality. Designed for all-season camping, its shape is reminiscent of the past, in the days of cabins built by farmers and fishermen. Then, in the process of increasing family members, a second “cabin” was added, connected to the first common roof.
The name Dogtrot – “Lynxes” came to the designers after reading the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by the American writer Harper Lee, in which the author mentions the lynx as a tourist attraction in the South of America. This also led to the idea of creating a covered passage between the two parts of the building to escape the heat.
This unique building is designed specifically for a family of tourists looking to have a home next to one of their favorite campgrounds on the NSW coast. The main idea was to domesticate their favorite pastime.
As a result, we got a building, consisting of three rooms, located as if around a kitchen and a campfire. Two roofs connect the pavilions, revealing a bathroom located between them. They are separated by a wide open corridor “Rystsa”
The rooms are separate, but highly dependent on each other and the surrounding landscape, like a group of tents. The central dining and relaxation space opens up to the surrounding nature and the breeze. Moving around the premises, you always have an idea of the weather outside.
The architects, with the utmost delicacy, tried to arrange the buildings without violating the very meaning of Australian camping and respecting the interests of the early settlers. The project shows a possible alternative to material investments. With a certain amount of the budget for the construction, it turned out to be a poetic dwelling in its modesty.
